THE LICENSING QUESTION IN CARDIGANSHIRE. SIR,-On the 2nd June I started from Llanfihangel Ystrad to attend Llanybyther monthly market in company with a friend of mine, being the first time my friend happened to be on that road. In the small scattered village of Cribin he was somewhat surprised to see two public houses there, known as the Mynach Arms and Three Horse Shoes. Lower down, about three quarters of a mile, my friend said, We need not be thirsty," glancing at another public house called "Cribin Bach." About half a mile or so again he noticed an old public house known by the name of "Fish and Anchor." We were now not far from the pretty little village of Llanwnen, here we found two inns, "Fox Hounds and Red Lion." We were now about half way from Cribin to Llanybyther, and after travelling about a mile we passed another public house called Finnant Arms. Further down about ten minutes' walk, we had to pass the Llanvaughan Arms, and within a quarter of a mile we passed the Highmead Arms Hotel, and before us on the right hand side was the Vale of Teify Inn. We at last sat on the parapet of the Llanybvther Bridge, reckoning the Publics from Cribin to Llanybyther, and found them to be ten in a distance of about five miles. What reason can be assigned for granting all these licences ? Are there any other 0 five miles so thinly populated in the Principality containing so many licensed houses ? I am, etc., CYMRO.
