Drunkeness. P.C. Evan Davies charged John Clerk, labourer, Llanrhystyd, with being drunk on the highway at Llanrhystyd on the 3rd March. Defendant denied the charge. The Bench considered the case proved, and fined defendant 10s. and 9s. 6d. costs. The same defendant was charged with being disorderly at the Black Lion Inn, Llanrhystyd, and refusing to quit on March 1. Mrs. Lewis, the landlady, said that the defendant was not quarrelsome, and that he did nothing, except interfere with Thomas Hughes, who was beating a lad, with a view of preventing him. On being asked by the Bench why she ordered the defendant out, she replied, because he was quarrelsome with Thomas Hughes. Mary Williams said was a servant at the Black Lion, and gave evidence as to the disturbance with T. Hughes; She saw blood running from the nose of T. Hughes. The defendant was neither drunk nor sober." The case was dismissed. Thomas Hughes, labourer; Llanrhystyd, was charged by P.C. Evan Davies with being guilty of the same offence on the 1st March. Defendant admitted the charge, and was fined 3s and costs.
