Illicit Trading. Joseph Prossor, an oocupier of a house at Upper Mwldan, appeared in answer to a summons issued by Inspector Roberts, to show cause why certain beer utensils, seized by himself and Police Constables Lewis Davies (21) and David Davies (36) on his premises on Sunday morning, July 27th, should not be condemned and sold. In support of the application P.C. L. Davies said that on the above date P.C. David Davies (36) and himself were instructed to keep a strict watch from an early hour on the defendant's house owing to what they had seen on a previous occasion. Between eight and nine a.m. they saw seven persons enter at intervals and before they would leave defendant's wife would come to the door and look about, then they would leave as if they were afraid of being seen. They afterwards entered the house and found four persons there. Inspector Roberts then arrived and a minute search was made which resulted in their finding a pan and tub containing new beer and under the stairs a small cask of beer with a wooden tap in it, all of which they removed to the lock-up. They saw two pint measures and a tin cup where the cask of beer was, but saw nothing on the tables. P.C. Davies (36) fully corroborated the last witness. Defendant called no witnesses as he said he was at sea at the time, but his wife told him she was brewing to get barm to make cakes for Cymmerch fair. The magistrates granted the order asked for, and after the court was over the beer and utensils were sold for 8s. 4d. by Mr T. G. Griffiths, auctioneer.
