A RAID AGAINST PUBLICANS. John Phillips, of the St. George's Inn, was summoned for keeping his house open during prohibited hours on Sunday last. Sergeant Evans deposed that about 10 30 a.m. last Sunday he visited defendant's house, and found five men with a glass of beer each upon the table. They were all townspeople. The offence was admitted, and defendant was fined 20s including costs.
Elizabeth Davies, of the Crystal Palace Inn, was charged with the same offence.
P.C. D. Thomas proved that he saw two young men of the town drinking in the house. Some young man was serving. Sergeant Evans said he had visited the house in the morning of the same day, and found a young man drinking. Fined 20s., including costs.
