Description: Report in the Aberystwyth Observer of 9th April 1864 on laying the foundation stone of the new AberClydan brewery

Transcript:
ON the first of this month an interesting ceremony took place at Aberclydan, eleven miles from Aberystwith, when the foundation stone of a large brewery was laid by a gentleman well known in the county for his scientific and chemical knowledge of the art of brewing and malting. The talented gentleman, after depositing a coin of the present reign under the stone, made a brief and appropriate speech, in which he stated he hoped that when generation after generation bad passed away, the coin would be found, and that Her Majesty's memory would be then as much revered as she is now beloved by her subjects. He concluded by dilating on the many advantages the place possessed for a brewery establishment. The most important one he said was that there would be always be on the spot a constant supply of water, the quality of which he had found on applying a chemical test to be first-rate for drinking and brewing purposes. We understand that the machinery and apparatus are to be constructed on the newest principles under the superintendence of that eminent engineer, J. Bright, Esq., of Carmarthen. The premises are intended for Mr. David Morgan, now for many years well known as a successful merchant and maltster.
