ADJOUn 1 D LICENSING SESSIONS. The adjourned licensing sessions was held at the Town Hall on Thursday. Present-Mr John James (mayor), Mr Isaac Morgan, Mr Thomas Griffiths, Mr Peter Jones, Mr David Jenkin Davies, and Mr Rd. James. Mr D.C.C. Lloyd objected to the renewal of the license of the Golden Eagle to Richard Morris, on the grounds that it had been kept in a disorderly way, that it was not required in the neighbourhood, that it was a mere tippling house within the meaning of the Act, and that the landlord was not a proper per- son to conduct such a house. Mr Humphreys (Messrs Griffith Jones and Co.), objected, and protested against any evidence what- ever being brought against the license as not required for the convenience of the public. He also objected on the ground that when the applications were made at the last meeting no one came to oppose them, and therefore the D.C.C. could not now object. D.C.C. Lloyd said that he objected in the report which he presented at the last court. Mr Humphreys addressed the bench at great length in favour of the points he had raised. P.C. Lewis (20) gave evidence that he thought the applicant and Mrs Morris were not fit to keep a public house, it being the resort of loose women and bad characters. The register of convictions was put in showing that applicant had been twice fined during the year for keeping a disorderly house. P.S. Evans gave corroborative evidence. Mr Humphreys again addressed the bench, and put in a memorial from the neighbours and friends in favour of the retention of the license. Margaret Morris, the applicant's wife, said she had been keeping the house for the past twelve years, and no opposition had been made before to the granting of the license. She did hot harbour prostitutes.

The next application was that of Mrs Beyston, Cross Foxes, the only ground of objection being that it was unnecessary.

Sarah Jones, Bridge End. The objections to this house were that it was not unnecessary, that it was not kept in a proper manner, and the landlady was not a fit and proper person to keep such a house. There were two convictions proved.

W. H. Wemyss, who appeared in person, applied for a renewal of the license of the Fountain Inn. Mr Lloyd objected to the house on the grounds that it is not kept as an inn, but as a tippling house, that the circumstances have changed, and that an inn there is no longer required, and that the landlord is not a fit and proper person to hold a licence. Mr Wemyss objected to any evidence that he was not a fit and proper person, as he was not aware that Mr Lloyd was going to bring these charges against him. P.C. Lewis gave evidence which was favourable to the applicant, as the house had fit stabling, was handy for persons coming into the town, and that he had not seen anything wrong with the landlord. E. H. Morgan, Royal Oak. The objections were that the house was not required, and that the land lady was not fit to keep such a house. Mr Humphreys appeared for the applicant. After consultation, the Mayor said the bench had decided to refuse to grant the renewal to the Golden Eagle to grant the license to Mrs Beyston, also to a new tenant of the Bridge End Inn; to W. Wemyss, and E. H. Morgan. The Mayor cautioned them all against supplying beer on Sundays.
