Transcript:
The death took place on Friday, the 24th instant, of Mrs. Sarah Evans, of Gambia, at the ripe old age of 89 years. The deceased was up to about 17 years ago the licensee of the Monachty Arms, which was then the leading hotel in the town, and many noted men in those days were in the habit of putting up at this hotel The deceased was considered a model hotel keeper, and her hostelry could well be described a home from home. After leaving the Monachty Arms she removed to the Gambia Inn. where for some years she carried on the same business, but on much a smaller scale. and after this house ceased to be a public-house, she continued to live there up to the time of her death. Her husband had pre-deceased her many years ago, and she was practicalIy left without any very near relatives. The deceased will, however be sadly misled by a host of friends in this town and other parts of the country. The funerai took place on Tuesday at Neuaddlwvd graveyard, her pastor, the Rev. D. L. Rees. officiating.
