AN INNKEEPER SUMMONED. William Evans, landlord of the Sportsman Inn, Great Darkgate-street, was summoned at the instance of the military authorities, and charged with supply- ing drink to an intoxicated militiaman. Richard Morgan, a lance-corporal in the Royal Cardigan militia, said he was in Great Darkgate-street on the uight of the 14th inst., when he saw a mason, living at Trefechan, named Michael, go into defendant's house. Michael is a militiaman, and was up for the training. He was drunk and so was James, another militiaman, who also went into the Sportsman Inn. Witness followed them and saw a glass of beer before Michael. The men were standing up, and he did not see them touch the beer. Mr Evans said in defence that Michael had been working for him, and on the night in question he (defendant) gave him Is. and a glass of beer. Corporal Jones, who saw Michael and his comrade in the house, said he would not swear they were drunk. The case was dismissed.
