Obituary: On Tuesday 22nd of March, another well-known character in the village was gathered to her fathers in the person of Mrs. Anne Richards, of Dolmeddyg. She was seventy-two years of age and was the last of a large family of ten children. She was born at the above-mentioned cottage, as was also her mother, Margaret Owens, who eighty years ago was reputed to have the sweetest soprano, voice in the whole neighbourhood. Scores of all classes gathered around her to hear her sing the old ballads of the' time. Congregational and choral singing of the present style was then unknown. Many people from a distance used to flock to the old church of a Sunday morning to listen to her beautiful voice. Dolmeddyg at that time was a flourishing village inn and had been for a long time previously, but some fifty years ago, the inn was discontinued and Margaret and John Owens started a tramp lodging- house which it continued to be up to the death of Mrs Anne Richards. This ancient family, which is known to have lived in the village' for 200 years, is now represented by a solitary, young, and unmarried lady. The Rector officiated throughout.
