"CARTING GRAVEL FROM THE BEACH. John Griffiths, of Trefechan, and David Jones, of Llanbadarn-fawr, were charged with carrying away a quantity of gravel, sand, and other materials from the beach in front of the Marine Terrace, a cargo of which was shipped in the harbour and sent to Liverpool for the gravelling of walks around gentlemen's houses there. The summonses were issued at the instance of Sergeant Thomas, as inspector of nuisances. The defendants admitted the charge. They were employed by Henry Morgan to carry the sand to the vessel. He was, therefore, an aider and abettor. Henry Morgan, who was present, said that the sand was required as ballast to mix with the timber. He denied that the gravel was shipped for sale. Tbe mayor reminded Morgan that if he only wanted it for ballast he could have got it from Ro-fawr, and Morgan knew very well that it was very wrong to carry it from the Terrace. Mr Davies thought Morgan much more to blame than the defendants. The mayor read Morgan and the defendants a severe lecture, and fined each 5s., including costs" AO 16 May 1868
