Prohibited Hours.- Evan Morgan, Butcher's Arms, was summoned by Supt. Lloyd for having kept his premises open for the sale of intoxicating drinks during prohibited hours on Sunday, May 2.-P.C. Daniel Jones said that though defendant denied there was anyone in the house, he saw four militia men in the parlour of the Butcher's Arms, and there were marks of beer on the table. The men said that the sun was hot, and that they had gone into the public-house for beer. They had only had a quart between them, which was scarcely a glass each. The policeman came too soon. - Defendant said he should not have opened the door only a man in plain clothes said he came from Machynlleth. When the door was opened three other men entered the house, but defendant only gave refreshment to the traveller. - The police officer stated that the traveller was in Aberystwyth on the preceding evening. - The Bench considered the case proved, and fined defendant 40s., and costs.
