IS IT POSSIBLE? There was a sad case of suicide on Wednesday in last week at Cardigan, the poor victim being Mrs Bridget Davies (35) formerly of the Half Moon Inn. She was seen from a distance to stand at the edge, of the river near the Gas Works, and then to enter and lie down in the water. An alarm was given, and Mr Wm. Thomas, painter, got to the spot as soon as possible and raised the poor creature, but too late for the. restor- ative measures taken to have effect. The water was only about 15 inches deep where she lay, but she was immersed about a quarter of an hour. The dead body was i conveyed to the Saddlers Arias, there to j await the Coroner's inquest. The news was 1 conveyed to the Coroner the same day, and urgent messages were afterwards despatched but notwithstanding the menace to health of an open coffin, and nofewifchstandig the serious hardship imposed by the delay on the Landlord of the house, the inquiry was not held by Mr J. H. Evans (Newcastle Emlyn), until Saturday at noon. Whatever the discretionary power (or license) a coroner may have, people here think that such a delay in carrying out his legal functions is most unreasonable. And this is by no means the mildest epithet used. PUBLIC MEMORIAL. Public indignation on the matter resulted on Tuesday in the preparation of a strongly worded memorial to the Home Secretory, < laying before him the facts of the case, and calling for his interference to prevent the repetition of such neglect. This memorial has been generally signed by ministers of religion, the members of the Town Council and the Board of Guardians. In addition to this it is understood that the facts will be brought to the notice of the County Council at their next meeting,
