Slaughter in the yard of the Raven

Transcript:
THE BUTCHERS. Up to Thursday last, the butchers have determined not to attend the slaughter- house, but to kill outside the borough boundary. On Thursday, a large number of them slaughtered at the yard of the Raven Inn, near the barracks. They persist in maintaining that the tariff fixed upon is too high, and that nothing will induce them to attend the slaughter-house excepting a large reduction in charges. The question at issue in this matter is as to the loss involved, and whether the corporation or the lessee will prove the ultimate losers. There is a slaughter-house without anything to slaughter, and a lessee and his assistant without any occupation. A queer dilemma, certainly. The handsome and commodious building has cost about 2000£
