DEATH OF A CRIMEAN VETERAN.-We regret to announce the death, which occurred on Saturday, at the age of 66, at Quebec Road, Llanbadarn, of Se geant Cain, late instructor of musketry of the Royal Rifle Brigade (the old Cardiganshire Militia). Mr Cain, who was well known in the neighbourhood, having resided for many years, served in the Regular Army for 21 years and retired on a pension. He was formerly in the Second Battalion 10th Foot, and has had a career which any Non-commissioned officer could be be proud. In the Crimea he was present at six engagements, and his decorations consist of the Crimean medal, with clasp, medal for Sebastopol, Inkerman, and Alma, with clasp, medal for long service and good conduct, and medal for meritorious conduct. Notwithstanding so much exposure to danger, Mr Cain was never seriously wounded, but he once had a narrow escape a cannon ball passed so close to one of his ears that the drum was broken and he suffered from deafness up to the time of his death. The Crimea in no wise damped the ardour of Mr Cain for a military life, for he afterwards saw lengthened service in India. Indeed in such high esteem was he held that he was recommended for the commissioned rank of quarter master, which position he was unfortunately prevented from taking by an illness which caused him to be invalided home. On his retirement from the Army Mr Cain went to America, but owing to the illness of his wife, he did not stay there long. Mr Cain also, at one time, kept the Old Unicorn Inn. The deceased soldier had been twice married. The three children of his first wife are living in America, and his second wife, with five little children, at No. 8, Quebec road, Llanbadarn, with whom much sympathy is felt
