His question was Where is Penllwyn Diarwya? His friend Dr Powell told him he had found it, and took him the other day to a place called Penllwyndu. There they saw, on the front of a public- house, the name Penllwyndu, and a picture of a grove. On asking what is represented it was said to be "Llwyneirin duon bach" (sloes), which seemed to indicate that" duon bach" was an addition, and that the name was Penllwyndu-eirin, and possibly a corruption of Penllwyn Diarwya, as written in the Mabinogion of the 14th century. Penllwyndu was on the north side of the Teify, whereas Cwmcuch was on the south side.
